Hla Tha Mein

Hla Tha Mein (real name U Hla Tin) was born are 7th February 1923 in Lepadan and brought up in Okpo in Bago Division. He had studied both in Roman Catholic school and in Buddhist school. He passed the highschool final examination in 1945. Since 1946 he worked in theGuide Daily Press and eats in someother press for nearly seven years. He practiced writing and translating since then. Later he joined the Burma Translation Office and then he was appointed as a senior culture offices in the Ministry of Culture and was promoted as a chief editor in the Language Commision, under the Ministry of Education until 1980. He retired and took up free-lance writing. He has published nearly 200books in different subjects and a few research works. He has also been teaching the Myanmar language to the foreigner's especialy from the Embasies of East and West. Together with Madamme Benot he has compiled French-Myanmar & Myanmar French dictionary. And also he helped Ms.Arremiri Aschi to compiled Myanmar-German & German-Myanmar dictionary. He helped as a co-tranlation with an American schoolers to translate Myanmar adminstration during Myanmar King. His special studies on the Epic of Myanmar Ramayana, Myanmar puppetry and on the events on Bagan can be read in each seperate books which he tidiously worked on. He is regarded as a learned schoolar in Myanmar traditional Arts and crafts. He is also a popular and prolific writer contributuing thousands of articles in the journals and magazines, many schoolars came and sought for different categories of knowledge from him. He passed away on 12th January 2000 in Yangon.
