Venerable Dhammarakkhita was born and lived just north of Sydney, Australia. He has enjoyed a comfortable life and after travelling to many countries, becoming a vegetarian and an environmentalist, he realised there is a lot more to life than meets the eyes. He became interested in Insight Meditation in 1992, practised under several well known teachers in Australia but soon found himself in the robes of a Buddhist monk under the guidance of his preceptor, Chanmyay Sayadaw in Myanmar (Burma).

After living in Myanmar for about 3 years with periods of intensive and extensive meditation practice, he has by invitation, taught meditation in Myanmar (Burma), East and West Malaysia, Japan and Singapore. Now he is showing the way of Buddhist meditation in South Africa.
